Woodseats
Woodseats is one of the larger suburbs in the south of Sheffield, not far from Nether Edge and Millhouses. It lies either side of Chesterfield Roadand down as far as Abbeydale Road. It’s very conveniently located near Graves Park (with a kids playground,) and has a load of supermarkets such as Tesco, Farm Foods, Netto, Iceland and Safeway. It lies on a main bus route into the city centre as well. This area is not far at all from Millhouses, where there’s an enormous business park with both Fitness First and Esporta gyms as well as a Sainsbury’s and a big Tesco.
You’ll never be short a pint in Woodseats because the pubs are all on the main road and there’s less than 100 yards between them. The Abbey, The Woodseats Palace, The Big Tree and The Woodseats are the main watering holes and have favourable reviews as being friendly and well established. They all offer outdoor drinking areas too. There are several fast food establishments, 3 fish & chips, 2 curry houses, 2 Italian restaurants, 2 Chinese Takeaways, 4 cafes, 3 pizza joints and 3 fried chicken establishments.
Other things in the area include pet shops, charity shops, craft and toy shops, real estate agents, a butcher’s shop and a couple of independent computer shops. There’s a reasonable Electrical and TV store if you want to boycott the big chains and a big furniture store at the bottom of Chesterfield Road.
The main local school is Woodseats Primary School on Chesterfield Roadand is easily accessible by bus. Be careful attempting to drive this area during peak hours as it can get very hectic!
This is the area of Sheffield that has it all – and it’s no great challenge to escape from it all out to the Peak District for some peace and quiet on the weekend.
