Hunters Bar

Hunter's Bar is actually the site of a roundabout where a historic toll bar exists on Ecclesall Road in the South West area of Sheffield. Hunter's Bar was recently immortalised by the Arctic Monkeys' in their song "Fake Tales of San Francisco". Despite the fact that the Hunter's Bar name only refers to a very small geographic area anywhere surrounding and near the toll bar has now become a part of "Hunter's Bar" and you will often find local residents and visitors alike referring to the Ecclesall Road area with this name. The intersection between Ecclesall Road, Brocco Bank, Junction Road and Sharrow Vale Road marks the absolute centre of Hunter's Bar with the historic toll bar now situation in the middle of the roundabout.

Hunter's Bar is a component of the Ecclesall ward that goes on to make up the Hallam constituency, and a number of major centres for trade exist in the area such as the popular main shopping district for the suburb. This used to be known as Endcliffe Market, and it is still referred to by this name by many local residents. The area itself has a very Victorian feel thanks to the large number of industrial revolution era terraced houses that flow in an arc from Hunter's Bar to Sharrow Vale that originally housed everyone from miners who worked in nearby pits to workers who were employed in local industry. Hunter's Bar represents an ideal "self contained" suburb of Sheffield, with nearby Endcliffe Park being home to many shops and restaurants ensuring that residents can find almost anything they may need just a short walk away.

The area is well served with both its own infant and junior schools, and a bohemian, albeit studious atmosphere is common thanks to the close proximity of the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. The Ecclesall Road area that Hunter's Bar is situated on is situated just over three miles from the city centre of Sheffield, and excellent bus links facilitate quick trips into the city proper whenever a resident should feel the need. The student accommodation is tastefully finished and many local residents feel the students add a unique energy to the Hunter's area that is not present in other areas of the city. The Hunter's area itself is a vibrant, thriving community that is home to a number of businesses and to people from all walks of life. Almost everything a resident could desire is just a short walk from their doorstep, and the city centre of Sheffield is a short cycle or bus journey away.
