Firth Park

Firth Park is both a ward and a district of Sheffield in South Yorkshire. It is one of 28 wards in Sheffield and Firth Park ward is situated to the north of the city and it encompasses an area of almost one and three quarter square miles. The last census in 2001 recorded that 8,500 households were home to 20,000 people in Firth Park Ward. The Sheffield Brightside parliamentary constituency contains Firth park along with three and a half other wards of Sheffield. The Firth Park district itself is named for Mark Firth, an industrialist and philanthropist who created a park and gifted it to the city of Sheffield in 1875. Mark Firth himself was a key part of a number of great projects that helped cement Sheffield's reputation as a key centre for industry, examples of this include the Sheffield Steelworks of which Mark was a pioneering founder. It is reported that he wished to create a safe, clean environment with a large amount of quality housing, green spaces and leisure activities for his workers and their families.

The Firth Park district boasts excellent transport links, it is just one and a half miles away from the popular Meadowhall Shopping Centre and the M1 motorway making it a popular residence for those who commute outside of Sheffield each day. Sheffield City Centre itself is 3 miles away from the Park and stands in contrast to the apparent green and country-like nature the park has to offer. A protected ancient woodland that is commonly known as Hinde Common is a major site of interest in Firth Park, and a large swathe of parkland surrounds the Victorian terraces and the architecture is beautiful, the Clock tower community centre and old Library are original early 1900's structures and are listed for their protection. Firth Park is also popular because it sits on a major cross city public transport route allowing easy access across the vast majority of Sheffield.

Although you can get anywhere in the city in a very quick time Firth Park contains a wide variety of amenities including its own shopping centre, a number of banks, supermarkets, chemists, bars, pubs and other social sites, along with doctors and dentists. A major renovation of the area recently took place, this planted a number of new green spaces around Firth Park and tidied up the existing parkland. A second phase in this regeneration plan has been announced that will bring a stream through Firth Park through the city in order to bring a new wildlife habitat to the region, and this will make the already attractive and charming Firth Park even more sought after.
