Bramall
Bramall is one of the most famous areas of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, and many from outside the region will know the name due to its association with the cities football and rugby teams, Sheffield United Football Club and the Sheffield Eagles. Bramall is actually home to the oldest large stadium in the world and it still hosts many professional games to this day, and the ground was first opened in 1855 and is continuing to go from strength to strength with a major expansion taking place in 2006. Bramall itself was named after the Bramall family who were builders of files and gravers.
They occupied a large house in the area and helped to support the local economy throughout the industrial revolution, and they helped construct the stadium (originally a cricket ground) in the late 1800's. Housing in Bramall varies, the majority of the homes in the area are terraced but there are a small number of semi-detached properties and some flats (usually in former houses) available for purchase. The majority of the housing (particularly the terraced buildings) were constructed during the 1800's to house the ever increasing population of Bramall throughout the industrial revolution. Due to its close links with the stadium house prices in Bramall have not been affected as much by the recent housing price slump.
There are a number of schools surrounding the Bramall area and local shops and businesses are fairly common. Thanks to the close location of the nearby stadium transport links are excellent in Bramall, with bus and rail links to all of the surrounding areas of Sheffield and quick connections to locations all over the United Kingdom being very easy to find ensuring that a Bramall resident needs never feel isolated from both the South Yorkshire countryside and also the busy city centre.
