Beauchief
Beauchief is both a district and a ward of the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, the ward makes up a fifth of the Sheffield Heeley constituency. Like many of the outlying regions of Sheffield Beauchief was originally part of Derbyshire until it entered the Sheffield county borough in 1934 when it was a part of West Yorkshire, and then it became a part of South Yorkshire in 1974. The last census recorded that just under 20,000 people occupied just under 10,000 households in the Beauchief and Greenhill ward, hinting at the demographic of houses and people that occupy the area.
Beauchief is very varied area with houses of all shapes and sizes, from smaller terraced locations right through to much larger detached houses and even a number of small estates. Beauchief is considered a very attractive area in which to live due to the large amount of urban green space in the region, a large amount of the Beauchief area is taken up by the grounds of the Hall and Abbey, both local landmarks. There are a variety of parks and even two golf courses for people to enjoy. Both primary and secondary schools are well catered from in Beauchief and most educational establishments in the region score well in standardised tests and assessments.
Beauchief itself started out life as a small separated village that sat nestled on the River Sheaf. Throughout the industrial revolution Sheffield expanded and gradually began to encompass Beauchief and the suburb was formed. You can still see many hints of the 1800's heritage of Beauchief, especially in the architecture of many of the buildings and homes in the area. Beauchief also maintains good transport links both with the city of Sheffield and also with Derby and various towns and villages in nearby Derbyshire. Local amenities are in abundance, with a variety of local shops and entertainment places just a short walk for many residents.
